“Chase your dreams”, they said.”Follow your heart.”
These mantras are said on the daily, but are they just too far-fetched and unrealistic to live by? Should we really set our hearts on chasing our dreams?
Quite simply, yes.
I feel incredibly strongly about chasing my own dreams, and encouraging others to follow their passions and making their dreams a reality, too.
As a millennial, I feel privileged to have been born when I was, and to have grown up and be living in the generation that I did/am. This being for several reasons. One being that we’re seriously beginning to challenge the system; more so than ever before. We’re starting to challenge the way things have been done for decades – and rightly so!
The current working system isn’t healthy, nor something that I aspire to get involved with. Don’t get me wrong if that’s your jam and working 9-5 is your way of pursuing your dream, then go get it, and good on you for doing so! But the ‘rat-race’, hm.. No thank-you, I think I’ll pass.
Am I being unrealistic in my way of thinking? Am I young and naïve? I mean, I’m currently in University, with no real commitments, no real pressures – so maybe I just don’t get it? But, honestly, I think not … After all, nothing changes if nothing changes! If you consider me young and naïve then that’s fine by me, but I’m happy to prove you wrong.
Being selfish with what you want out of life and how you choose to live your life is not an issue, so don’t go creating it into one, and don’t allow others to do the same.
There are some things in life that we have no, or very little, control over, so those that we do we should take the control by the reigns and take responsibility for guiding it as we so choose. Because honestly, if you don’t then somebody else will, and heck it’s your life so if you’re privileged enough to have the option of taking control and living the life you desire then it would be a sure shame not to.
In fact, I’d go as far as saying that it’s your right to do so – having the freedom to follow your dreams is not something that everyone is privileged with, so own it.
In defence of the
pessimists realists out there, wanting something bad enough doesn’t automatically make it happen. You have to be willing to put the work in. You have to face fears and act not fearlessly because fear exists and it’s so very real, but you have to act in spite of fear! You have to be courageously reckless and perhaps most importantly you have to believe in yourself unconditionally. For doubt is incredibly crippling and debilitating, you must use every ounce of self-believe you have because there’s no room for doubt here.
Having a great love for something, and being so full of passion is a blessing, so don’t go making it a curse, or allow it to be made a curse by others.
There are countless stories of people following their dreams and pursuing their passions and succeeding! Don’t get me wrong I’m also fully aware, as I’m sure you are, that there are also countless stories of people trying and trying to fulfil their dreams yet not succeeding. But when, and why would you ever focus on those stories? Let positivity lead and it has no reason not to win.
Each and every one of us is full of something unique – regardless of how cheesy and cliche it sounds, it’s so very true.
If you have a dream, chase it and just keep on chasing and chasing.
Your only true limitation is yourself.
Please, go in pursuit of your passion, for we need more passionate people in the world, and we need more people who shall go courageously in pursuit of that that they believe in.
If they can do it then so can you.
And if it hasn’t been done before, then even better!
I believe in you.
And so should you.
SO, what’s your dream, and how are you going to fulfil it?
